My Reflection

Observations

While on this trip, I encountered many scenic views. These were very relaxing and reminded me to make sure I take small breaks. I will make sure to carry this through to my professional endeavors by utilizing my free time to relax so I can be at my best when I am working.

Food and Culture

I had fondue twice on this trip, and it was delicious! However, I noticed on the menus there were only cheese options and no chocolate fondue for dessert, as is typical in the United States. This reminded me to take even small things with a grain of salt.

Historical Perspectives

Through our visit to a local Swiss farm, I realized how much farming has changed over time. Now, it has become more about monetization rather than producing sustenance. In the future, this will likely continue to worsen. I can make a difference by supporting small, local farms.

Future Plans

After visiting numerous universities on this trip and learning about their graduate opportunities and incredible research, I have become more interested in pursuing a master’s degree in the future. It has also motivated me to increase my involvement in university research.

Reflection Project:

Through this trip, I learned about how significant European doctors and researchers were in early medical discoveries. I gained an appreciation for the impact microbiology has had in the past and the present. I also discovered that sometimes the best memories are made in the absence of a detailed plan, as some of my favorite trip moments were not a part of a detailed itinerary. I found it interesting how varied the scenery was, even for locations in close proximity to each other. I was also impressed by how abundant public transportation was, and how useful it could be. One thing I would like to keep learning about is the logistics behind implementing artificial intelligence to gain a holistic view of a patient’s lifestyle.
